Respondus LockDown Browser Troubleshooting [Instructors]

This article covers how to troubleshoot potential issues that instructors may encounter on their end while using Respondus LockDown Browser. This page will be gradually updated with new information as we document any recurring issues and their solutions as they arise.

Remove Leftover Honorlock Safeguards

Quizzes that previously required Honorlock will need to have two pieces of information removed from the quiz settings before they can be used again– the quiz access code (password) and the Honorlock widget in the quiz's introduction text. Students will not be able to take these quizzes again until those pieces of information have been deleted from the quiz settings.

We have another Knowledgebase article that goes into further detail on removing these leftover Honorlock artifacts from a quiz.

Students Stuck at Access Code/Password Screen

Respondus does not use an access code to guard quizzes, so it will not place a password on your quizzes like Honorlock used to. If your students are getting stuck at an access code screen and you did not set up your own access code, then it is probably a leftover quiz password from when we used Honorlock in the past. You will need to disable the quiz access code requirement before students can take this quiz again. Please see the previous section for more details.

If you already enabled Respondus LockDown Browser on the quiz before removing the old Honorlock access code from the quiz, the old Honorlock password may have gotten saved in the Respondus settings for that quiz. You can delete this access code by opening the LockDown Browser page in your course, opening the proctoring settings for that quiz, and deleting the text in the Access Code text box. If the access code starts with an "HL_", that confirms that it was an autogenerated Honorlock code from before.

Removing the Honorlock Link from Your Course Nav Bar

Honorlock, our previous proctoring tool, has been taken offline for UW-Parkside. To remove it from your Canvas course, open the course's Settings page and swap over to the Navigation tab at the top. Click the More Options icon to the right of Honorlock and select Disable to move it down to the hidden items list below. For a visual guide, visit our Knowledgebase article on Hiding the People Tab From Course Navigation Bar.

Click the options icon next to Honorlock and select Disable to remove the honorlock link.
