Removing Honorlock from Canvas Quizzes
UW-Parkside is changing vendors for our automated quiz proctoring needs, so instructors will need to remove the Honorlock requirement from their existing Canvas quizzes. Students will be locked out of Honorlocked quizzes, so it is critical to remove the requirement from any previous quizzes moving forward.
How to Remove the Honorlock Requirement from A Canvas Quiz
Open the Honorlock page in your Canvas course. To the right of any Honorlock-enabled quizzes, click the Settings button.

At the bottom of the quiz's Honorlock settings page, click the red Disable button.

Repeat this process for all quizzes in your course.
Once you are finished disabling Honorlock from all of your quizzes, you can remove Honorlock from your course's navigation menu from the Navigation tab in your course's Settings page. Our Knowledghebase article titled "Hiding the People Tab From Course Navigation Bar" shows how to remove a link, such as Honorlock, from your course's navigation menu.
Alternate Version #1 - How to Remove the Honorlock Requirement from a Classic Quiz
The previously mentioned steps are the preferred way to remove Honorlock from a Cavas quiz. That method ensures that the quiz will be free of any remnant Honorlock security that could interfere with functionality or confuse students. However, there is one backup method to remove Honorlock from Classic Quiz assessments.
The instructor simply needs to open the Classic Quiz's settings to disable the access code requirement and delete the Honorlock widget from the quiz's introduction text block.
NOTE: This is only works for Classic Quizzes as a backup option. This does not apply to New Quizzes assessments because the Honorlock widget and startup screen will automatically come back, even if you delete the widget and quiz password.
Removing the Access Code/Password
You'll need to disable the access code requirement from the quiz settings. You can also delete Honorlock's preset password for good measure.
For the Classic Quiz tool, the access code setting is located halfway down the quiz settings page, just above the due date settings box.

Removing the Honorlock Widget
The Honorlock widget is usually placed at the bottom of the introduction text box. Scroll to the bottom of the text box and delete the widget. The entire widget is contained within an invisible frame, so the entire thing will get deleted in one go.

Alternate Solution #2 - Rebuild a New Copy of the Quiz
If for some reason you are unable to remove the Honorlock requirement from your Canvas quiz, one guaranteed method to work around this is to rebuild a new copy of the quiz. You can do this manually for shorter quizzes, or you can significantly speed up the process if you use question banks.
If your quiz questions are not already copied into your question bank library, you can force Canvas to create new banks for your quizzes by exporting the quizzes and re-importing them into the course. This process is slightly different depending on whether you're using the Classic Quiz tool or the New Quizzes tool, but this method works for both versions to add your existing questions into your question bank library.
