Copying Individual Pieces of Course Content Into Another Canvas Course
CAUTION: Copying the same content into a course more than once will overwrite it rather than creating a second copy.
1) Locate the item you wish to copy into another course. Its location will depend on what type of content the item is. This can be done from various locations in your course, such as your modules, Assignments, Pages, Files, or Quiz pages.
2) Select Copy to... from the item's ⋮ dropdown menu.
3) Search for the new course you want to copy this item into.
5) Click Copy to begin copying the item. The copying process usually completes within a few seconds. You can check the status of the duplication process by going into the new course's Settings page and opening the Import Course Content page.
6) If the copied item is an assignment, you will want to update its settings in the new course.
A copied item will be identical to the version found in the previous course. However, there are three aspects to assignments that will likely need updating in this new copy:
-
- Due Dates: The due dates will need to be adjusted if they're not identical to the first course's due dates.
- Assignment Group: The assignment group will be switched to "Imported Assignments" instead of whatever assignment group it was originally a part of in the previous course.
- Proctoring Settings (if applicable): If the assignment is a quiz that requires the use of Honorlock, you will need to open the new course's Honorlock page to reconfirm its proctoring settings since those won't automatically carry over without first verifying that you still want to use those previous settings.
- Due Dates: The due dates will need to be adjusted if they're not identical to the first course's due dates.
