Getting started with Respondus LockDown Browser [Students]
What is Respondus LockDown Browser?
Respondus LockDown Browser is a secure browser for taking quizzes and exams in Canvas. Any quiz utilizing LockDown Browser will include that in the title:

Other quizzes or exams may require the use of "Respondus Monitor" in addition to LockDown Browser. This requires you to have a webcam and go through some additional steps to setup video prior to beginning the quiz. Those exams will be labeled accordingly:

Where do I find Respondus LockDown Browser?
The LockDown Browser can be installed and used on personal devices:
- Windows and Mac Personal Computers (Admin Access Required)
- Chromebooks using the "LockDown Browser" extension.
- Apple iPad - iOS App (Instructors must enable on a per quiz basis)
Canvas will prompt you with the download information when taking the quiz. You can also download it directly.
On Chromebooks, the installation link will send you to the Chrome Web Store where you can install the LockDown Browser Extension.
How do I install Respondus LockDown Browser on a rental laptop?
On university-owned computers and rental laptops, software can only be installed from a list of pre-approved applications. Respondus LockDown Browser is one of the approved programs, but instead of downloading it directly from the Respondus website, you'll need to install it through Software Center.
Open the Windows Start menu and search for Software Center. Once it's open, select the Applications tab. You should see Respondus LockDown Browser listed among the available applications. Select it and click Install to begin the installation process.
