Accessibility: How to Check your Canvas Course for Accessibility

This article contains information and instructions on how to use the Canvas Course Accessibility Checker (UDOIT). The checker is available to instructors in all UW-Parkside Canvas courses and is designed to help improve overall course accessibility.

How to Check Your Canvas Course for Accessibility Issues

  1. From the course Navigation menu, click on Course accessibility checker (UDOIT).
    Note: This link is only available to users with the Instructor or Administrator role.

  2. The checker will automatically start scanning the course. The scan may take several minutes depending on the overall course size, i.e., number of course files, etc. 
    Note: you may receive a a Cidi Labs authorization prompt the first time you launch the tool in your course. If so, click to Authorize. 

  3. From the Ways to Get Started section, click on any of the options to view the associated Errors and Suggestions for each item.

    You can also click on any of the linked headings listed in the Most Common Errors and Most Common Suggestions columns to start fixing each issue one by one. 
    Note: Errors are issues which MUST be fixed to ensure equal access. Suggestions are issues which SHOULD be fixed to ensure equal access.
