CoPilot is Microsoft's AI tool that leverages machine learning and natural language processing to help users with tasks such as, drafting text, generating data insights, creating presentations and more.
How to access Copilot
Important Please Read!
When accessing Microsoft Copilot, It's extremely important to recognize/understand the difference in security protections when using Copilot generically on the Web (copilot.microsoft.com) and UW-Parkside Copilot for MIcrosoft 365 via the Microsoft suite of tools provided by UW System.
The generic web version of Copilot (copilot.microsoft.com) is not considered FERPA compliant.
In order to ensure that your data is protected, you must log into Copilot using your UW-Parkside Username and Password.
How to access Copilot using a browser
- Open your browser and go to https://copilot.cloud.microsoft.
- Click on the Sign in button.
- Enter your UW-Parkside Username and Password and then follow the two-factor authentication prompts.
- Enter your Prompt in the Message Copilot text entry field (highlighted in yellow below).
How to access Copilot via Rangermail
- From the UW-Parkside logins page, click on the Rangermail tile.
- Log in using your UW-Parkside Username and Password, then follow the two-factor authentication prompts. (See step 3 above)
- Click on the App Chooser icon located in the upper left portion of the window.
- Click on More Apps.
- Click on the Copilot tile to launch the application.
How to access Copilot via the Microsoft 365 (Office) Mobile App
- Download and install the Microsoft 365 (Online) App compatible with your mobile device OS.
Apple (iPhone, iPad) | Android - Log into the app using your UW-Parkside Username and Password, then follow the two-factor authentication prompts.
- The first time you log into the app, you'll be prompted to Pin Copilot to the app navigation. Pinning Copilot to the MS 365 app navigation will make it easy to access the next time you use the app.

Copilot FAQ's
Can I use Copilot in Word, PowerPoint or excel?
[NO] Our current Microsoft 365 license does not include Copilot integration with office suite tools, i.e., Word, PowerPoint, etc. Copilot can only be accessed by logging in via a browser or the Microsoft 365 mobile app.
Can I use Copilot with any browser?
[YES] Copilot is compatible with up to date versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari.
Does Copilot share any information with OpenAI?
[NO] Your data is not available to OpenAI or used to train OpenAI models. Learn more on how Microsoft protects user data.
