Okta - Removing or Adding a Device

This article will teach you how to add a device to (or remove a device from) your Okta account.

REMOVING A PHONE (OR OTHER DEVICE) FROM YOUR ACCOUNT

If you have a new phone, the phone which you used for initial enrollment will still be the registered authenticator on your account. Your old phone cannot be used if you no longer have access to your old phone, as you will not receive the push notifications.

NOTE: Remove your old phone from your account BEFORE you get rid of it.

If you no longer have access to your previous device, call (262) 595-2444 and ask the CTS TechBar Technicians to reset the authenticators assigned to your account. Afterward, you will enroll the new device following the same Okta enrollment steps you have used previously.

To deactivate an old device, sign into the Okta dashboard, click your name at the top right, and go to Settings in the drop down menu.

Okta Dashboard, Click your name at the top right, and click settings

click the "Remove" button next to the intended device displayed in the Security Methods panel of your account page.  Then confirm and authenticate.

ADDING A NEW PHONE TO YOUR ACCOUNT

NOTE: Remove your old phone from your account before doing these steps.

Download and open the Okta Verify app on the new phone.

  1. Tap the "Add account" button to add an account to the device and follow the steps

Get Started, Next, Add Account, Organization, Skip, Yes Ready to Scan
If you recently removed your old phone or another authenticator from your account, the process is the same as the initial enrollment with one exception: The initial screen of the OKTA Verify phone app.

New enrollments will see “Welcome to Okta Verify” on the first screen whereas you will see “No Account Added” instead. Also, the button on said page will read “Add account” rather than “Get Started”. Every step in the process is otherwise the same.

If you have not already enrolled, you will see the welcome page and a "Get Started" button. Follow step 1 through 6 on your phone, then sign-in to myapps.uwp.edu on a separate computer.

After signing in, click Setup for Okta Verify and scan the QR code displayed on your computer with your phone to enroll.

  2. Open your Okta dashboard on a computer browser (separate from your phone) and go to Settings.

    Dashboard, Settings

  3. On your account page in the "Security Methods" panel, you will see an Okta Verify section. Click "Set up another" if you have other devices or "Setup" if it is your first in that section.

NOTE: THIS IS AN EXAMPLE FOR THIS KB ARTICLE. THIS IS NOT THE QR CODE FOR YOUR ACCOUNT.

If you clicked Set up in the previous step, your QR code will be displayed on your computer, not on your phone. REMEMBER: You cannot scan a QR code, displayed ON your phone, WITH, your phone.

  7. Tap "Not now" on your phone to decline biometric authentication for your account. (UW-Parkside CTS does not provide support for biometric authentication methods)

  8. You can set the account as your new default account or Skip to keep your current account as the default.

    Set as Default or Skip

  9. Once complete, your Okta dashboard will have a brief notification congratulating you on a successful enrollment
