D2L - What information is saved when a course is "Archived"
A D2L course archive preserves the raw information associated with the course, but not the nature or "presentation" of the course. A course archive is not suitable for course import into Canvas.
A D2L Course Archive will contain the following information (if the specific tools were used within the course):
- Org unit
- Org unit enrollments
- Org unit components and user activity for:
- Content modules and topics >Course files Discussions
- Group contributions such as group dropbox folders
- Group Locker
- Quizzes, Question Library, Surveys, and Self-Assessments
- Release Conditions
Departments can request access to the IIL D2L archives by submission of the following request form: Departmental D2L Archive Access Request Form. Departmental requests for information will be fulfilled within 5 -7 business days.
UW System institutions retain student grades for two years from the end of a course. Other course information is kept one year. Instructors and departments may choose to retain information for longer periods based on need. Responsibility falls to the department in how to maintain local copies of information.
