Please select a column and follow the guide accordingly.
Chrome
For Google Chrome, start by opening it, and clicking the 3 dot icon as shown below:
Then, click on settings in the menu that appears:
To set a homepage:
Click on the Appearance option on the sidebar as shown:
Finally, click the switch icon on the 'Show Home Button' option. You can then customize the homepage you want to set by entering its URL
To set startup behavior:
On the sidebar of the settings page, click 'On Startup'
You can then customize whether Chrome will reopen pages where you left off, open a specific set of pages you define, or open the New Tab page as normal:
Firefox
For Firefox, start by opening it, and clicking the 3 line icon as shown below:
Then, click on settings in the menu that appears:
To set a homepage:
Before going to settings, this is necessary: right click on the '+' button (used to open new tabs) and click Customize Toolbar
Next, drag the 'Home' button to the area to the right of the refresh button, or wherever you would like it.
From there, go to the settings as shown above. Then click on the 'Home' option on the sidebar, and at the top of this page, and set them to whatever you wish
To set startup behavior:
Unfortunately for firefox it is currently not possible to have both a custom homepage and a selection of tabs to open on startup. You can make the homepage button home a selection of tabs however, but the behavior is not identical to chrome.
