Zoom - Student Group Recordings

This document will walk through the steps of how students can create meetings in Zoom for group presentations, and how to record those presentations.

Zoom - Student Group Recordings

This document includes a written tutorial, followed by a video tutorial at the end of the document.

To access Zoom through Canvas, you will login to Canvas and click into a Canvas course. You will then click on the Zoom link on the course navigation bar.
* Note that Zoom is enabled by default on every Canvas course navigation bar, but some instructors might choose to remove it. If Zoom is not on the course navigation bar, you can access Zoom externally through the Zoom website.

You will then be prompted to login to Zoom with your UW-Parkside credentials. After logging into Zoom, you will click on the Meetings link on the Zoom navigation bar and then click on the Personal Meeting Room tab.

All faculty, staff, and students at UW-Parkside have a Personal Meeting Room in Zoom that is open indefinitely. For group projects, one student in the group will copy their Personal Meeting Room URL and share that URL with their fellow group members. Since personal meeting rooms are open indefinitely, group members can simply decide on a time to join the session and they can enter without needing to schedule a specific time in Zoom.

After the group members have all joined the session and are ready to record, the host of the meeting (the student who is the owner of the personal meeting room), will begin recording by clicking on the Record button on the Zoom toolbar.

When you're ready to stop the recording, click on the "Stop Recording" button on the bottom of the Zoom toolbar.
(You also have the option to pause and resume a recording if you need to take a break during the session.)

After you stop the recording, you will be prompted to save your recording to the Cloud, or locally on your device. We recommend saving your recording to the Cloud, which can then be accessed online and can also be downloaded onto your computer if you want to save the MP4 file.

All of the recordings you create and save to the Cloud will be available in Zoom through Canvas.

To access recordings through Canvas, you'll navigate to a Canvas course and click on the Zoom link on the course navigation bar. Then you will click on the "All my Zoom Meetings/Recording" link.

Then you'll click on the Cloud Recordings tab.

After you've found your recordings through Canvas, you can click on the appropriate recording title. This will open the recording, where you can choose to download the file or copy the link to the recording to share with your instructor or classmates. To get the shareable URL, click on the Share link underneath the recording.

Note that there will be both the full recording file, and a file with only audio. If you want to share the full video and not just the audio, make sure you click on the Share button underneath the video title "Recording" and not "Audio Only".

A window will pop up with the shareable URL that you can copy and send to anyone who needs to view the video.
