Transition from Collaborate Ultra to Zoom – Fall 2021
Zoom is the new official web conferencing platform of the UW-System. Up until June 2021, the UW-System had a contract with Blackboard Collaborate Ultra (BBC Ultra) which had been the standard web conferencing platform used for online instruction. The transition between BBC Ultra and Zoom will be completed by August 16th, 2021.
What is Zoom?
Zoom is a web conferencing platform that will be integrated with Canvas beginning on August 16th, 2021. The web conferencing platform will available for use in all UW-Parkside Canvas courses. Since Zoom will be integrated with Canvas, instructors and students will be be able to access Zoom directly from their Canvas course(s) navigation. Zoom can be utilized in a variety of different ways such as: synchronous online classes, online office hours, small group projects/discussions, student presentations, guest speakers, and more.
How do I use Zoom?
Since UW-Parkside does not have Zoom integrated with Canvas yet, we cannot create a tutorial on the Zoom integration with Canvas. Because of this, we will be using a combination of tutorials from institutions that do have Zoom integrated with Canvas, and tutorials that we've created about Zoom itself. We will be sharing additional tutorials when the integration has been completed, so keep an eye on your email for updates.
Below is a video walking through the Zoom integration with Canvas. Keep in mind that this video is from a different institution, so it's possible that Parkside's integration may function a little differently. This video should be used to get a general idea of how the Zoom integration will work in Canvas, and shouldn't necessarily be used as a step by step tutorial.
