Connecting to the UWP Virtual Windows Desktop

This document will walk students through how to access UW-Parkside's virtual Windows desktop.

Connecting to the UWP Virtual Windows Desktop

Windows, Mac, or any device that has a web browser can access the virtual desktop.

**Chrome is the strongly recommended web browser for this process. If you don't have Chrome, it is available for download here. Off campus access is typically limited to classes that need specialized software. Your faculty can request access for your class by contacting**

To access the virtual desktop, go to if off campus or if on campus.

Choose VMware Horizon HTML Access.

If you will be using the virtual desktop often from this device, check the box that reads "Check here to skip this screen and always use HTML access". If you check this box, you will be able to skip this step in future sessions.

Login using your UWP credentials and then click on the Main Lab icon; you may see other lab choices depending on the classes you are taking. Different labs have different software.

You will now be logged onto the virtual desktop, identical to the same desktop that is on over 150 computer in labs all over campus.

NOTE: Once you are on one of the virtual desktops, all the Parkside drives including your H: drive are now listed when you click on My Computer. The H: drive will have your login name. You can close the virtual desktop the same way you would turn off your own computer.

Please note that you CANNOT SAVE to the virtual desktop. You must save any files to your H: drive or cloud storage like Microsoft OneDrive, Drop Box, Google Drive, etc.

On the far left side of the screen on the virtual desktop, you will see a tab (it is highlighted in the image below). This opens some tools like ctrl-alt-del key combo, the ability to import files from your computer into your virtual desktop environment, and more. If you are running the virtual desktop from a phone or tablet, it should also have an option for an on screen keyboard.

If You Can't Log In

If you specially requested (in writing) that the Registrar's Office make your personal information be more restricted, you will not be able to use the virtual desktop as it will not recognize you as a registered student. The easy way to verify this is to enter your name in the Search People & Site window on the top right of the UWP homepage. If you are not found, you have to set the security policy that stops you from using the virtual desktop. Very, very few students have this policy set. If you do, you can ask the Registrar's Office to lift the restriction.
