How to connect rangermail to the iOS 'Mail' app
Sign in Process
First, when opening mail for the first time you may be prompted to add an account. If you are trying to add another account or this doesn't pop up, this can be found in the accounts menu in the Mail app's settings page. For rangermail to work properly, tap "Microsoft Exchange"
Then, you will be prompted enter an email to setup. Enter your UW parkside email address in the Email field, and a description that makes sense to you in the description field.
Note that the description field is not tracked or stored by UWP, but is intended for personal reference by Apple. Once all relevant information has been entered, tap Next.
Then, a popup will appear requesting that you sign in using microsoft.Tap Sign In as shown.
Then, another popup will appear requesting that the Mail app uses Microsoft to sign in. Tap continue. This essentially allows our sign in page to 'talk' to the Mail app
Then, UWP's sign in page will pop up. Sign in as normal, using your username or email, and tap next...
...and then enter in your password. Tap Verify.
Note that you may be prompted to verify with OKTA using a push notification, code, or Yubikey, whichever is applicable.
A trust popup will then appear. This is essentially Microsoft asking if it can direct your login to UWP. Tap Continue as shown.
Following this, a prompt will appear requesting that Microsoft shares information associated with your account with Apple. This step is necessary to ensure your emails will show up in the Mail app.
Once you have granted permissions, you may then be prompted to select what is synced to the mail app as shown below. This is up to personal preference, however mail will always be synced.
Finally, a modal will appear asking to send you notifications. This is up to personal preference and will not affect your email, only the mail app.
Once all above steps have been completed, you should now be signed in to the mail app! You can view, send, and reply email like you would in outlook. Note that due to security policy, you may be logged out every 2 weeks when using the mail app. See Mail App re-signin Process for more information
Mail App re-signin Process
Due to security policy, every 2 weeks you may be required to sign in again to keep using Mail. This is a security measure and cannot be changed. When Mail needs you to reauthenticate, you may be prompted to re-enter your password via a popup at the bottom of the screen when using the app. If you do not receive this popup and notice you are not receiving emails follow the following steps to sign in to the Mail app again and continue receiving emails.
- Go to the home screen.
- Find the settings app, and tap it to open it.
- Scroll down to Mail to view the Mail app's settings
- Tap Accounts
- Tap the associated rangermail account
- Then, tap the button that says "Re-enter Password". Note that you will not see this button if your password is not needed by Mail, i.e. you should still be receiving email
Following these steps, you should now be receiving emails again! If you have any questions, concerns, or if this article did not help, please call us at 262-595-2444 or reach out to our servicedesk at servicedesk@uwp.edu
