External Email Warning Message
New external email warning message added to Outlook email for campus users.
Beginning November 11, 2021, email messages originating from non-UWP addresses will feature a prominent red warning that identifies the message as external.
If you require technical assistance or have additional questions, please contact the CTS TechBar at (262) 595-2444 or email servicedesk@uwp.edu.
* External Email: Use caution responding, opening attachments, or clicking on links. *
The purpose of this warning is to alert recipients and reduce the risk to UW-Parkside students and employees from being inadvertently scammed by an external source. Opening a malicious link or attachment sent to you via email may allow bad actors to install malware on your computer, obtain your UW-Parkside password or other personal information. Some messages sent from outside UW-Parkside will even try to impersonate another UW-Parkside student, faculty, or staff member.
Your Outlook email will now protect you with the following alert when a message has been sent from an external email address.
A red banner identifies the message as one that was sent from an external email address. The banner will even appear for senders who are in your Safe Senders list.
These features will not prevent you from accessing any links or attachments sent from the outside, however they will caution you to consider the source and whether the message is expected, before you continue.
