Since many computers have been offsite for several months now, many users see the following error: “
Your Windows License will expire soon, you need to activate Windows in Settings”. This is because the Windows License on the University devices is activated while
connected to the campus network. If you are getting this message, please connect to the
VPN and stay connected for a few hours.
Important: It is strongly recommended that you connect to the VPN several times a week to avoid this issue and other minor issues that can come up over time. If you continue to receive the Windows license expiration message after being connected to the VPN for several hours, please contact the Tech Bar at 262-595-2444 for additional troubleshooting service.
In some cases, if we are unable to resolve this issue remotely, you may have to bring the device to campus to physically connect to the network.
