Canvas: Re-Embedding Kaltura Videos (Kaltura Migration)

This document will walk through the process of re-embedding Kaltura videos into Canvas. With the LMS migration from D2L to Canvas, there is also a Kaltura migration between servers. This means that all Kaltura media will have to be re-embedded when the migration takes place.

Canvas: Re-Embedding Kaltura Videos (Kaltura Migration)

With the LMS migration from D2L to Canvas, there is also a Kaltura migration between servers. This means that all Kaltura media will have to be re-embedded when the migration takes place. To do this, you will need to be in a Canvas course that has Kaltura videos and navigate to one of the videos.

Depending on when your content was migrated from D2L to Canvas, you could see two different things. You might find an error message where the video once was or you might find the actual video.

This is what the error message will look like.

Regardless of what you find, this process will be the same. Click on the Edit button on the top right of the page in which the video is embedded.

Make note of the title of the video, the title is how you will find the new video and you want to make sure you're finding the correct one! If you're replacing an error message, have your course open in D2L to compare and find the titles of your videos.

Click into the text editor and make sure your courser is to the right of the video. Then backspace to delete the old video. Once the video is deleted, find the blue V on the toolbar. Click on the blue V and select My Media from the drop-down menu.

This will open a new window with all of your Kaltura videos. Find the appropriate video from the list and click on Select to the right of the correct video.

Your video should now be re-embedded into the text editor.

It's kind of hard to tell the difference between which video is old versus which is new, but the main difference is that there is no longer the Parkside "P" logo in the bottom right of the media player. When in doubt, re-embed.

Once you've re-embedded your video, make sure you click Save.
