D2L - Anonymous Discussions

Learn how to use the Anonymous Discussions feature in D2L.

D2L allows instructors to create Discussions with the option for students to post anonymously. Under the Properties tab of the Edit menu, there is a section called Options.

The Options section is located on the Properties tab of the Edit Discussions menu.

If you would like to allow students to post anonymously to the discussion board, select the Allow Anonymous Posts box. Once that box has been checked, students will be able to post anonymously to that particular discussion board, although it is not required,

At any time, students can select or deselect the Post as Anonymous button.

Post as Anonymous is located at the bottom of each Discussion posting.

Once an anonymous post has been created, students will not be able to see the author of each discussion post. Instructors will see a Show Author button, but the initial posts will appear anonymous unless the Show Author button has been clicked.

The Show Author button is only available to instructors.

If the instructor clicks the Show Author button, a window will appear with the student's name.

Show Author will provide the instructor with the name of the Anonymous Author

Note: At any point you can decide to turn off the anonymous setting for the discussion board. However, posts that were already created anonymously will still remain anonymous to all students. Only new posts will appear with student names.
