How to Install a Network Printer on a PC and Make it Default
The purpose of this document is to show how to install a network printer to your PC. This is for printers that are already added to the network. And only faculty and staff have access to these printers. Student employees must have their supervisors request permission at the CTS Help Desk for them to access network printers.
1.) Open up the start menu.
2.) In the search bar of the start menu, type in: \\uwpps.ad.uwp.edu
3.) Hit 'enter'.
4.) A list of printers should then appear in a new window. Find your printers name in the list.
5.) Right-click on the printer and select "open". This will install the printer on your computer.
To see that your printer has successfully installed you can open up the start menu again and go to "devices and printers". You should see your printer listed under "printers and faxes". You can right-click on the icon of the printer and select "set as default printer" if you'd like. This will ensure that each time you print a document it will automatically print from this printer.
Note: Some network printers, usually MFP's (Multi-functional printers) require a printer code. To ass a printer code, follow the steps below:
1.) Right click on the printer in Printers and Devices and click "Printing Preference". (See picture below)
2.) Go to the tab "Detailed Settings".
3.)Under "Menu:", select "Job Setup".
4.) Enter in the printer code where it says "User Code". The code is usually four digits long.
